Hi all,

A lot of people thinks that the only way to do a Trek between Cusco and Machu Picchu is the famous Inca Trail. In fact, there is another one, the Salcantay Trek. It's a 5-day trek, starting from Mollepata. I invite you to have more information about this winderful trek in the website: www.salcantay.info

Have a nice Trek.

Yes,I agree.I just went on the Salkantay trek for 5 days, and also did the Inca trail a few years ago.i definitely preferred Salkantay.Inca trail is over-rated and a nightmare to book, because you have to book months in advance.Salkantay ,you can leave anytime without reserving with the peruvian government.i went with www.phoenixperutours.com great company,no complaints at all.

Salkantay is fantastic and I loved it...however, watch which company you book with because I ended up being the only one on the trip who was in for 4 days only and was thrown onto the trail at 4AM with only a porter who spoke neither Spanish nor English and left me far far behind on the 6 hour hike out...while the guide stayed with the group... however, it is spectacular...

What are the mayor differences between this trek & the classic Inca Trail?
Please negative aswell as positive, do you see a lot less ruins along the way for example?
This seems like a nice alternative for somebody like me who doesn't know when éxcatly he will make it to Cusco...

The salcantay.info does have some interesting info on the trek, but I would agree with queen that ericktrekker does seem to post unsolicited reccos and this agency isn't reccoed in the guidebooks.

Research the company you trek with and do not look for the lowest price!
