I want to travel from Pulcallpa basically to Tarapota and then Chachapoyas. Is it possible. Basically I dont want to have to got to Lima from Pucallpa then on to Chachapoyas.

Yes it is possible. Take a bus to Tingo María, then continue on the "Fernando Belaunde" highway via Tocache and Juanjui to Tarapoto.
