Hello
My friend and I are going to do the Inca Trail in late June then he leaves about 5 days after that. What is the best thing to do within that short time near Cuzco? Also, I am staying for another month after that and was wondering if it is possible to just plan as you go or if during June and July in Peru and Chili you need to be able to book things in advcanced? When I was in SE Asia we were able to go to a city and then talk to people about where to go and do next and go from there. Is it like this in South America as well?
Thanks so much!!!!
Jen

There is not a definite rule but to be on the safe side you should reserve in advance.

Hey Jen,
do you mean book flights or hostels or both? My understanding is that , unless there is a big festival going on (e.g. Inti Raymi), you should have no problem. When you book in advance, you pay the advertised price, which is usually higher than the price you get if you walk straight in. In addition, you will be limited and not able to go with the flow, so to speak. You can be a lot more spontaneous if you do what you suggested. Of course, the disadvantage is that you might not be able to book a specific hotel or lodge, but if you are flexible that should not be a problem either. Have fun in Peru! I will be there the same time as you!
