Does anyone know if there is somewhere to take the PADI open water course in Peru?
Will have a spare few days and need to get it done.
Also anyone know anything about the beaches in the north of the country? I've heard there is good surf there.
Thanks

I had never surfed before I went to Huanchaco in January.(surf town 20 minutes on bus north of Trujillo). I LOVED it!!! Granted I had snowboarded before and used to skateboard over a decade ago in high school but I found it a lot easier than I had imagined...I think thanks partly to my instructor who was really strict about me getting it right on the sand before I even entered the water (Carlos at The Wave). I stayed at a family hospedaje and my room overlooked the ocean...a 30 second walk from front dorr to beach (don't remember the name of hospedaje but it is right on the first main corner north of the pier...other corner is the first surf shop). Lots of different waves to choose from in the area...some walking distance and some short bus rides away. I am heading back there to surf again before I head south in a few weeks...loved it so much I almost didn't leave the first time!!!

I've seen a big suba diving store here in Lima... I know they organize courses but I'm not sure they are PADI certified... but it's worth checking it out:
