I wonder how much longer before the Salkantay trek also becomes so popular that it gets booked up months in advance... or is there no limit to the hordes on that one?

cecilia its an interesting question, one that I have been thinking for a while now....
they regulated the inca trail because of environmental damage - so what happens - salkantay gets over touristed to the point that they have to regulate that as well... so what will happen... lares will get over run!
what about tourists trying to act more sustainably, and putting pressure on agencies to run sustainable trips?
i'd like to hear some thoughts on solutions to stop salkantay getting over-touristed and badly degredated in the next 2-3 years.

Hi Alex,

We were in the same situation and decided to do the Salcantay. It is a bit different, less ruins, but it seems the views are awesome. We can't wait!!!!. We booked online with www.salcantay.info, great site.

Cecilia - you are on the mark. We (this board I mean) are actually one of those causing this, IMO. good, bad ? dunno.
