Hello,
I was contemplating doing a mini Inca Trail. The one that starts at the Wiñay Wayana ruins. My understanding is that the same restrictions do not apply to this as the full Inca Trail, although I am somewhat confused.
It was in a Hunter guide that it was listed as an alternative if the Inca Trail was all booked up. I can't do any of the other longer trails (or the full Inca trail fo that matter) for health reasons. I just wanted to check that the Hunter guide wasn't a bit misleading. LP and the Rough Guide are not particularly detailed about this option. My understanding is that it does not fall under the 500 limit, but you still have to pay for a permit (albeit reduced from the full trail rate) and have a licenced guide. Can anyone confirm this?
Many Thanks

The trek you are referring to is also called "the Two-day Inca Trail" (even though you don't stay overnight on the trail, but at Aguas Calientes) or "the Short Inca Trail". Go to www.andeantravelweb.com. You will find a lot of information there, including lists of tour companies.. I'm not sure about the permits not counting against the 500 limit, but you could e-mail one of the tour operators for more info.
