I'll be arriving at Lima airport in a couple of weeks, at 9 in the evening, and have a hotel reservation in the city.
Can anyone advise the best and safest way to get into town? Is there a registered taxi stand at the airport?

Get in touch with your hotel if they can provide a pick up service. Try to avoid the ridiculously overpriced official airport taxis, but it is also wise not to take a normal cab on the street outside the airport area (not so safe neighbourhood and new arrivals with all their gear are easy targets for dishonest cabdrivers). So best and safest way is to book a pickup with your hotel. Reasonable prices for a ride booked through your accommodation are: Lima Central 8-9 USdollar, Miraflores 12 USdollar and Barranco US14 dollar (but be prepared that some hotels overcharge as wel. Have fun in Lima!

20 US bucks is a rip off to any place in Lima where turists usually stay.

Hi there
I think the safest way is get your taxi booked by your hotel or just at the exit gate get a taxi green (official as well but older cars)
they charge 12$ for a taxi ride to Miraflores or take the airport bus for $6
Have a nice time in Peru
dont pay 20$ is mucho

Hey dont take taxis outside perimeter
Watch your luggage, pay US$12 per a cab is safe 15 or 20 Soles may mean being robbed by some dirty drivers.
Good luck

As previous posters have suggested you should go the Green Line taxi stand just outside the EXIT doors. The price to Miraflores is fixed at s/40, and you won't have to fuss around with getting change as with a regular taxi.

Sweetie darling... arriving at night in Lima... DO you look like stereotypical gringo? White blonde hair??
Please.. pay your $20.00 bucks GOING to the hotel, unless the hotel picks you up, PLEASE.... Or get a Taxi WITHIN the airport. DO NOT GO OUTSIDE... DONT GO CHEAP.....
follow above recco and contact your hotel.... even if your spanish and sense of direction are fine, this is the way to go. Nearly every hotel has this service. Most likely it will be the same person the hotel uses all the time.
No worries.

As stated above...easiest to book an airport pickup through your hotel. They'll likely have a fixed rate between 10-15 USD depending on what area of the city it is. Then when you land, just walk out with your bags...walk past all the taxi drivers trying to get your business and look for a sign with your name/hotel on it.
