Being short of time, we have decided on a pretty ambitious first day in Peru.

Leave Lima with the 3.30am Cruz del Sur bus.
Arrive in Paracas around 7am. Do the Ballestas island tour and then catch a bus to Ica.
Visit Huacachina, do the buggy+sand boarding thing.
After that we need to go back to Ica and find a bus to Nazca (we do not have time to spend the night in Huacachina/Ica).

When do you think we will de done in Huacachina with this schedule? Will it be any problem to find a Ica - Nazca bus at that time (preferably without reserving tickets in advance)?

Thanks!

If you can make the 8 am Ballestas Islands boat tour you will be done at 10 am. There are not that many buses from Paracas to Ica but there are lots of buses from the highway just outside of Pisco. So if you can't find a bus from Paracas to Ica take a taxi to the bus terminal on the highway just outside of Pisco and take a bus to Ica from there. Then a taxi to Huacachina. So you would be in Huacachina early afternoon. You can do the dune buggy tour right away although most people like to wait for the sunset and go around 4 pm. Most tours take 2 hours. You might want to find a place to shower after though! Then you can take a bus from Ica to Nazca. Oltursa for example has a bus at 7:45 pm in case you decide to wait for the sunset tour.

Cruz del Sur reportedly has a 7:20 bus also. The transport time Ica to Nasca is only about 2 hours, so you should be fine as long as you've booked the bus in advance. Huacachina is only about 10 minutes by taxi from the center of Ica.

Also, there is a minivan service that can take you directly from Paracas to Huacachina after your Ballestas islands boat tour. You'd probably need to arrange with a local Paracas hotel to get this; mostly the hotels book their guests as passengers.

The bus company that dominates, or more correctly monopolizes the Ica - Nasca run is called Soyuz-PerúBus. Departures every half hour throughout the day from the terminal terrestre in Ica. No advance booking necessary. Buses are cream-yellow with reddish-brown script.
