on the info peruplanet agency in cusco sended us the 4 days lares was 295 usd all included as wel the 5 days salkantay for the same price , so i think SAS is a bit overpriced ,,, sorry lonely planet , but maybe because they are in the book ,,,,
I like the conversaion regarding handing out things - I'm really glad I have read this as it made me see the other side - won't be taking anything to give out :)
I haven't tried it myself, but one traveller to India recommended taking along a rubber stamp. You can stamp the kids' hands with a smiley face or whatever, they're happy they got something, but it's not a handout. I thought that was smart. It may not be a perfect solution, but it's at least a compromise.

I went with a company called Biocustoms for the Lares Valley at it was HORRIBLE, i strongly recomend NOT going with them. The walk itself was nice but the guide didnt talk to us the entire time, lied and misguided us as to what we were going to be doing and the costs that were involved. I dont normally post on these things but i wanted to make sure that this guy (Vladamiro) does not get any more business!
