So of course the LP is wrong, Lake Quengococha is not an hour walk outside town. Wondering if anyone has been, and how did you get there? All we can find are collectivo drivers that want to take us for quite a bit of money, 150soles. Thanks

Ask, or get a local person to ask (for a more accurate price) what the cost of a taxi is to Chugur - which is just a cluster of casas / fincas, and then walk from there. The road here is just single track and is dotted with fincas and casas. I left first thing, deciding to walk the road and hitch at the same time, and was fortunate to catch a ride on the back of a moped with a person going out to work on one of the finca's close to Chugur.

Another nice attraction nearby is Cascadas Cochecorral.

I'm worried we won't find a ride back. It's hard to hitch with 3. Also, we have been told there hasn't been enough rain yet for the cascadas. Oh well. We took some nice walks from town and will hike up to chupac on the hill for the view.

If you know any nice hikes outside Cajamarca, we are headed there later. We have been to los baños del inca and cumbemayo previously.
Thanks

We liked the Ventanillas de Otuzco. Not really a hike although we did walk there from the banos del inca.
