Hello,
I am going to Chile for work and afterwards going to take a holiday in Peru. I was wondering if other people have used there Garmin GPS in Peru while hiking over there, because I do not find much information about TOPO maps for Peru. Hence, I am in doubt whether I should take my GPS on the trip.
Does anyone know:
1) if the Peru TOPO map can be found easily in Chile (I am going to work in Santiago)? Also, buying the map in Peru would be too late because I will not have access to a computer to install the maps on the device.
2) how much it costs approximately?
3) are there any alternative free maps of the region?
Thank you.

With "alternative free maps of the Peru" I meant digital Garmin GPS maps (sometimes there are projects that create free topographic maps for regions that cannot easily be found).

Hello, you can write to: jonruper@hotmail.com
It works for the IGN of Peru (http://www.ignperu.gob.pe) .
Downloadable topos arent available for Peru (just check garmin.com to confirm): http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/topo/index.jsp
You can download waypoints no problem... either from google earth... or set them off several of websites...
