I would like to take a trip to Peru, and one of the things I definitely want to do is the Ferrocarril Central Andino. The problem is that there seem to be no future dates on the website for when the train will run again. Is the train being shut down, or do they just post dates at a later time? Any information is appreciated.

Thank you!

A few years ago the train used to go once or twice a week. Not sure what the situation is now.
There are only few train lines in South America that operate regularly. It isn't a common means of transport in that part of the world.

Hello.
We were around Huancayo and Lima last june.
The train seems to be working.
According to the website, next Lima departure october 29th and then from Huancayo back november 1st.
This train is quite expensive.
We travelled by bus from Huancayo to Lima, paying only 10 soles (around 3€) and 8 hours, many buses all day and night long.
The road is beautiful too headig 4.500 m high and then down to Lima. From teh road you see the rail tracks in a long way high in the mountains and down to Lima, so not so different views...
Around La Orora it´s km of mines, even in the highest mountains... Terrible!
The train HUancayo- Huancavelica was not working.... for many months... but many buses.
We just recommend this part of the country if you have already visited Peru (it was our 3rd time). You need time.... Many mountains around.
Huancayo just a big town.
Huancavelica it´s for the surrounding with indeginous people and landscape high above... but the small town is nothing special.
Ayacucho is nice. Colonial and no tourists.
Still a very long way going to Cusco through the mounatins... that´s why you need time.
Just to go up to Huancayo and then back... maybe doesn´t worth it...
Cordillera blanca around Caraz and Huaraz it´s nice too...
On our blog in spanish details and useful infos.
EnjoY!

Yes, but you can see that beyond November 1, there are no listings. I want to see the listings for 2017. This information is missing on the website for the train.

There is only one trip each month, mostly towards the end of the month.
They seem to announce one departure at a time. The November departure will probably be listed before the end of October. Check the following web page regularly:

https://www.ferrocarrilcentral.com.pe/reserva.php

This website is useless for booking.
Next departure is on the 29th of October at 7:00AM. The train leaves from Desamparados station, at the end of Jiron Carabaya, a short walk from the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Once in Lima, just go to Desamparados (now casa de la Literatura Peruana) and ask the security lady about the time and date of the next departure. She will also direct you to the place where you can buy your ticket(s). Its is in a shopping mall not far away from there. Don't think there will be any problems with availability, courtesy of low season and high prices. Count on paying ~300US$ pr one-way ticket.
