Thinking of going to El Carmen, Peru in hopes of seeing some Afro-Peruvian dance, once I return to the coast. I cannot seem to find any place to stay there that is affordable. Does anyone know of any place less expensive than the hacienda?

Nearby Chincha Alta is a larger town and should have plenty of cheap local "hostales". If you zoom in with Google Maps, there are at least 4 hotels within 1-2 blocks of its Plaza de Armas.

As #1 mentions, there are loads of hospedajes along the main road in Chincha Alta. There is basic accomodation and even a tourist office in El Carmen. Just ask a local to take you there when you arrive. More then that, there is a beautiful yellow cathedral in the Plaza de Armas.
