day tours of Lima

hi, lima is not really a place you would like a tour around. basically it is just a large, polluted, urban city similar to many others. it has no real distinctive or unique sites and with such a large group and range of ages i would find it hard to recommend anyhting really worthwhile doing.

Lima is not as bad as many on the TT claim. Definitely some areas that are not good to take a group like you describe, but you should be fine taking a tour during the day. There are many agencies that offer tours of the city. A half day tour should be $20-30/person and you should be able to get a better rate since you have a group. Another option would be a tour of some of Lima's museums. Pachacamac is about 30km south of Lima and would be another interesting 1/2 day trip. It was a ceremonial center prior to the rise of the Incas and they built a temple to the sun at this spot when they came to control the region. Enjoy your visit!

the cinemas in Lime are really good, probably the best part of this city. sorry #2, Lima isnt really that nice a city. The cinemas are very cheap as well. fun for all the family!!!

I highly doubt the highland flingers are expecting a Disneyland-like environment. In fact, since they obviously appreciate culture, they may well find Lima fascinating. I suggest a trip to Brisas de Titicaca to see some fantastic indigenous dances featuring fabulous costumes.

US$20 per a transfer from Airport Hotel RT per person? come on is too much!!

MIRABUS, it is the nicest and the cheapest way to do a tour around Lima. As you see you have a variety to choose. See the prices... 5 soles...($1.50 p/person)

You're right! We're definately not looking for a "Disney-like" experience! We want to experience the culture of Peru. The most exciting part of this trip for our dancers (and chaperones) is the once in a life time opportunity for a lot of us to see a part of the world that me might not have otherwise ever been able to see.

Our goal is to get the most out this adventure! Our concern is of course safety. Most of the travellers in the group are in their twenties and older; however, we do have three under age dancers (my 14 year old daughter being one of them), so we want to make sure that while we're getting to experience first hand the history and culture of Peru we're not venturing off into somewhere potentially dangerous for the girls.
