Hi,
We're trying to get from Cuzco to Laz Paz via a few nights in Lake Titicaca.
From what I've read, Lake Titicaca is 'nicer' from the Bolivian side, so we've decided to stay a few nights in Copacabana.
We are short on time, so I was hoping to fly Cuz - La Paz but there isn't a direct flight. Unless I'm mistaken, the most direct route is via Lima! Please let me know if this isn't the case.
Fastest way from Cuz looks like flying to Juliaca and to bus it to Copa and fhen bus to La Paz.
Can someone please let me know if this is the best way to do it, and if so with which bus company etc?
Cheers.
JC.

I used buses to get across the border but I don't know what would be the most convenient and fastest way in your case.
As for which side of the lake... Puno in Peru is a bleak little town but has a nice market. Personally I much preferred the islands in the Peruvian half of the lake, they are very special with typical dress and costums. The floating reed islands of the Uros people are not to be missed. Standard tours from Puno include a visit there, and an overnight stay on the island of Amantaní and a visit to Taquile island where the men knit colourful hats and such.
I didn't like Copacabana at all. Even in 1997 it was already extremely touristy. I can only imagine what it must be like now, 10 years later.
Isla del Sol is quite nice but you need a good guide. Otherwise you won't know which rock the sun was born from (according to the Incas), where the virgins were sacrificed, and things like that...
I don't know how much time you have but I really liked the town of Sorata, 5 hours from La Paz. It's very green, pleasant, quiet and a good base for short and long hikes.

We got the train from Cuzco to Puno which was good fun http://www.orient-express.com/web/tper/journeys/4_53405.jsp<BR>We took the boat across (cannot remember the name) and then got a bus on the other end into La Paz.
