Can anyone advise on the best way to Choquequirao? What do prices of trips from cuzco look like these days? How long are the trips? How hard would it be to do without a guide?

Not sure about agenciy prices from Cusco, but no problem doing it independently 2 years ago, dont think much has changed except that there is maybe now a trail fee charged at Cachora. To get to Cachora take any bus from Cusco to Abancay; they will drop you at the turning where collectivo taxis wait to take you to Cachora. From Cachora 2 days there and 2 days back, plus a day at the ruins which are quite large and in a superb setting. Once you're on the right trail out of Cachora theres only one path and you cant get lost; its worth hiring a mule muleteer in Cachora though as the route is pretty tough (approx 1500m descent to Apurimac river then a steep 1600m climb up to the site) and it gets scorching hot down in the canyon during the day. You can get basic supplies in Cachora (though more variety in Cusco) and there are also hostals there.
Have fun!
