Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands

Just a brief warning about this place - we tried to stay here for a night, and ended up getting locked out when we returned at 8:30 pm! It's on the sixth floor of a building, so no amount of yelling or banging would bring anyone. I'd asked what time the doors were locked before we left, only to be told that they were open all night! The hostel itself was fine, with decent rooms, but be prepared to turn in early! We were lucky enough to have enough cash to find another hotel for the night…

ok, so this is yet another question about the Galapacos islands trips but there is such a big choice, it's hard to decide.
My husband and I are hoping to take a 3 week trip in late January, early Feb 2008. We're trying to decide on a 5 day vs an 8 day island trip. We both want to spend at least 2 days diving so our original plan was to do a 5-day island trip and then do a few day trips diving. Everywhere I read that people regret not going on the 8 day trip but it feels like 8 days will be too…

Does anyone know if flights to the Galapagos with TAME are flexible? If I buy the round trip ticket (fare class YE21 valid for 21 days) with a specific return date, can I change my return date without a problem/fee? I'll be booking my cruise from the islands so I don't know exactly when I'll be returning to Quito.

Just wondering if anybody has advice about getting from Ecuador into North Brazil. I hear it's possible to get a 5 day boat trip down the Amazon into North East Brazil, but just wondering what the story is about crossing the border between these two countries.

I am loking to spend a few weeks there to learn some Spanish at the start of a 7 month trip.

Does have a good exerience or any reccommendations for:
