Ecuador/Quito

Hi:

I recently returned from Quito and Galapagos. Ther Maryanne was a wonderful sailboat. It was mid December and I must tell you that the water was freezing. Other than that, I had a grat time.

Joe from OLA Travel was the very best guide from Banos to wherever you wanted to go. His choices were splendid and never spenttoo much money on hotel rooms or food. I recommend him very highly.

Hi there.

We're going to the Galapos Islands in the beginning of March or end April. Any thoughts on going WITHOUT a boat reservation? Is it absolutely impossible to get on board if you don't reserve in advance? And if it isen't (impossible), how long it the wait approx?

We're looking for a medium budget boat - nothing fancy but still okay regarding food and drinks plus the boat itself. Any recommendable ones?

Thanks alot:o)

Itinerary help...

Hi All,

I am wondering if this sounds like a feasible itinerary, considering the short time my husband & mother-in-law & I will have in Ecuador in January. We can't do the Galapagos, but even without that I'm finding that our time constraints mean that we will miss something (i.e. we seem to have to choose between mountains & cloud forest/jungle)

Day 1--arrive in Quito in evening
Day 2--Quito
Day 3--Bus to Banos
Day 4--Banos
Day 5--Banos
Day 6--Bus to Cotopaxi; hotel near/inside the park
Day…

Trip Report: Galapagos

We organized our trip through happygringo.com, we found Julia to be very helpful and we are glad she booked us on the Encantada.

Boat: Encantada is a red colored 65' motor/sail boat. It carries 12 passengers and 6 crew. It has a dining area where everybody gathers, eats and socializes. You can also sit outside. Earplugs recommended it is fairly noisy at night since all the traveling is done during the night.

Crew: They were really nice people. The boat driver Eddie and the guide Juan spoke…

Greetings! I plan to stay 6 months in Cuence mostly. Does anyone have experience with traveling with a dog [mine is German Shepherd female adult]. I will fly from Houston to Quito probably in April.

I'm looking for a hostal or hotel that will accomodate us, Once in Cuenca I will rent an apartment.

I spent 3 months in Ecuador in 2003. I know there are a lot of guard dogs in the cities.

Cheers.

Surfing Canoa Ecuador North coast

Hello All

What is the surf like on the north coast of Ecuador in March? I am thinking of traveling to Canoa and surfing for a week to 10 days. Anyone had experience getting there from Quito and how are the waves?

Thanks

fake currency from ATM

I was in old town Quito almost two weeks ago and withdrew money from an ATM. Later on when I was using the money it turned out that some of the bills were counterfeit. I did not know that fakes could come out of ATMs. I would advise to go through all your bills when you get them from the ATM so that you can spot any problems before you leave the location. The bills I have look exactly the same, they even have the watermark. The difference is that the paper is much smoother and it doesn't…

Where to buy rubber boots in Quito?

I've read that it is possible to buy rubber boots inexpensively in Ecuador. I would like to know where in Quito they may be purchased and if they have U.S. size 12 for men. If they are available, it would save me the trouble of bringing them from home and I could pass them along to someone else at the end of my vacation. Thanks.
