Canoa-Lodging

Looking for ideas about lodging in Canoa -- admittedly haven't had a ton of time to research b/c of work and am leaving in a week. We've always been the "grab and go" travelers, however I am getting finicky in my old age and like a bit more comfort these days.

I know it's the "rainy" season, but how booked up are things on the coast? Can we just arrive and look around Canoa?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Sailing (not cruising) tours of the Galapagos

Hi, am looking to book a Galapagos tour for the end of March, and was hoping to get on a sailing yacht.

There's a few boats I can see that are motor sailers (e.g. Nemo II), but I'm wondering how much they operate under sail, as opposed to motoring.

Has anyone been on one of these and can tell me how much they sail? (I realise it may be wind dependent, but perhaps they hardly ever use the sails?)

Or if anyone knows some boats/tours that do sail could they let me know?

Thanks.

17 days in Ecuador (incl. Galapagos) in May

I’ve just found out we have the opportunity to head to Ecuador in May for approx. 17 days! Our main reason for going is to see nature and animals. Obviously, we will definitely go to the Galapagos Islands. We don’t have a huge budget, but can afford to pay that bit more to see amazing places, or to take options that support environmentally sensitive travel. We also dive (which is, of course, expensive).

This is the beginning of my research... any tips?

Quality Ecuadorian Spanish teacher, online

Hi all,

I have recently returned to Australia, having spent almost a year in Colombia/Peru/Ecuador. Most of that time was spent taking Spanish lessons.

I have covered all the tenses and would like to improve my conversational skills and recap on some areas of weakness/poor memory. During my trip I had great teachers and not so good teachers and realise what a difference a good teacher can make.

I'm seeking a teacher in Ecuador for lessons ONLINE. Why Ecuador? The accent is good and it's one…

Tena/Cuyabeno, advice appreciated

Finally the plan for a 6,5-week trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos in March and April is done. Below is the outline of the trip if anyone has any addition to it.
I would very much appreciate thoughts on how those who have visited have found 1. Tena and Cuyabeno, 2. Banos and Mindo, with respect to how similar they are and regarding the kind of activities one can do there (i.e. whether we will be seeing similar things in Tena as in Cuyabeno, or whether rafting in Banos is as good as those trips…

7 Day Trip-Quito Based

Hey all! This is my first time posting here, and I'm super excited!

I am planning my first trip to South America; to Ecuador to be exactly, for this summer-it will be either July or August 2014. I plan to be in Ecuador for a week, maybe 8 days, based in Quito because I am a woman travelling alone without a car, and I'd like to be based in a place with access to public transit, medical aid, close to an airport etc.

The more I research about Quito (and I've gorged myself on research!) the more…

Budget lodging near Quito airport

We will be arriving at the new Quito International airport at 1am. Is there some budget lodging nearby? How long does it take by taxi to get into town, if we go there?

Where to stay in Quito

Hi,
My husband and I will be in Quito for two nights in February. Typically, we prefer to stay in historic parts of towns. I am having difficulty deciding whether to stay in the Old Town or in the newer part of Quito.. I have heard that the Old Town is not safe after dark (more than "typically" unsafe in a city). Has anyone stayed recently in the Old Town who could comment on this?
Thank you,
Rocky 57

Peru to Galapagos: a few questions

Hi everyone,

I am planning a trip to Peru in May and am mulling tacking on a trip to the Galapagos. I have a few questions to get me started:

1) From Peru (Lima or Cuzco) do I need to fly through Quito or is there a more direct route? Suggestions of airlines to look into would be appreciated.

2) I am assuming I will need to book a cruise (thinking 4-5 days) in advance, is this correct? Or is it possible to book on arrival? Interested in terms of both availability and cost (I know it will be…
