Cotopaxi Day Tour Agency Advice

Hi Fellow travelers,

I am honeymooning in Ecuador this coming March. We are looking to take a day-trip to Cotopaxi. I am thinking of booking a tour with Ecos Travel/Cotopaxi Tours. Does anyone have experience with this company? Or are there any other company suggestions? Thank you!

Me (English) and my wife (Indonesian) will be travelling around Ecuador for 3 weeks.
December 30-January 4: Quito Area. January 4-13: Galapagos. January 13-20: Andes Mountains & Volcanoes.

During our 9 days in Galapagos we have 3 days in Puerto Ayora, 3 in Puerto Villamil and 3 in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno I booked the hotels online. But I'm a bit worried about how I will get money when I'm there. Of course I would rather not carry large amounts of cash with me, especially from Quito. 2…

Hi gang!
I am going to be in the south of Ecuador and want to peek into Peru to add another country to my checklist. Silly, I know.
I have heard immigration facilities are far apart and a hassle. I have also heard the border is an open trade zone
My question is this: if I just walk over the footbridge into Peru....have lunch.. (will I need Sols?) and walk back....do they stop people and check passport stamps?
Thanks

Ecuador train service.

Me (English) and my wife (Indonesian) will be travelling around Ecuador for 3 weeks.
December 30-January 4: Quito Area.
January 4-13: Galapagos.
January 13-20: Andes Mountains & Volcanoes.

On our 3rd week in Ecuador I haven't decided exactly what to do, but one possible plan is to ride on Ecuadors restored railway network. I may try and get down from Quito to Alausi for the scenic train line there.

But checking on the internet it looks like there are only special tourist trains running…

Cost of Galapagos day trips

I am headed to the Galapagos in March and am leaning towards a land-based approach, taking the occasional day trip instead of a cruise. For various reasons (cost, flexibility, desire to wander on land rather than be cooped up in a boat), the land-based approach suits me. However, recently I am seeing day trips advertised at MUCH higher prices than my guidebook suggests. I was expecting to pay maybe $80 for a full-day trip like Kicker Rock from San Cristobal. On some websites, I'm now seeing $160…

Ecuador mainland ~4 weeks

Hello all. After doing research this is what I've come up with for my trip this December - January. I'm unsure on a good number of things, mainly what order to go through. A lot of the things will probably change when I get to Ecuador depending on weather, how I'm feeling, what people recommend, etc.

1) Quito (arrival) (~6 days):
a) 1 day just walking around
b) 2 days exploring specific parts of the city (museums, churches, etc.)
c) visit the Mitad del Mundo, would that take an entire day?

Easy volcano to explore in between

Is there any volcano that's worth seeing but easy to explore (in terms of physical fitness) near Quito, Banos, or Riobambe? I'll be with my parents, and they're old (~ 50 years) but still want to see a volcano. Maybe there are guides that can take them up on horses? What do you guys think? Thanks!

Hi, I'm back, still working to fill in the many gaps on my solo trip from the GIs to get to Panama over 6 weeks. So now I'm trying to feel good about the ability to travel from Banos to Coca arriving before 11AM to catch a Amazonian experience. Don't think I want to go to Tena - rather have a day more in Banos I think?

Also what is the scenery like between Coca and Quito as I might come out via bus taking all day but interesting?

So is it possible, can't prove it to myself yet?

thx

hostels in Quito and airport transfer

I am arriving at the Quito airport middle of the night and heard the only transportation into the city is a $40 taxi ride.Is there a cheaper way in? Do any low budget hotels have airport pick-up? Can anyone recommend a place [$10-$15] in the 'La Floresta' or the 'Mariscal' area?
Thanks

Weather in Ecuador (December - January)

In general, is it not recommended to visit Ecuador in December - January? I'm planning to Otavalo and Quito then make my way down south to Cotopaxi, Banos, Riobambe, Ingapirca, Cuenca, and then Guayaquil. Will it be raining 24/7 or are rainfalls generally brief and only in the afternoon? I've looked up the weather and different sources say slightly different things. Just need some general advice on how weather would impact travel.
