We're thinking of flying to Galapogos Islands over the christmas holidays (dec15-jan5) . From reading past posts I know it's one of their busiest times of year and reservations are highly recommended. Would my wife and I be stupid to expect some openings from boat operators if we showed up with No RESERVATIONS.

would appreciate any feedback.

Hi,
I recently spent the best 8 days of my entire life on the Galapagos islands doing a fantastic cruise on a sailing ship that took in all the usual islands and the islands far north and south also. I booked it well in advance and spent alot of time checking all the boats out before I booked. It was expensive but it was worth every penny. I would strongly recommend booking a trip before you go as I met many many people who were severly disappointed with their trip on the Galapagos because they took a last minute cheap deal on one of the boats. Nobody going to the Galapgos should have a disappointing time, I think. Its an amazing place so its worth forking out that extra cash and doing a bit of research before you go. I am already planning a return visit!

But ok some people are lucky and get good deals on the good boats too but this is not how i would do it personally.

Hope this helps,
Have a great time, say hi to the sealions for me!

You would be very lucky to pick up anything last minute over Christmas - in fact I am guessing that most spaces are already sold given that we are already into November.

Not at all, you can get last minute deals, for example I take one in galasam.com and they give a place in the Estrella del Mar II for december. And some friends from france give their places in the Queen of Galapagos for the end of december and january. Only you have to ask in the agencys who are the owners of the yachts, directly.
