LP's guidebook makes it appear to be pretty simple...get the ferry...get on the crowded bus...get off in Puerto Ayora. Is this still the current wisdom? Once in Puerto Ayora, do we then find a (white) pickup truck to take us to our hotel? What's a fair fare for the truck?

It is very easy! Free buses take passengers from the airport to the canal. At the canal there are boats crossing which cost around $0.80 (July 2013). At the other side buses for Puerto Ayora are waiting. The bus is $1.80. In Puerto Ayora the bus stops near the main pier. There are lots of taxis, white pick-up trucks, cruising the streets and in July 2013 the cost for a taxi ride within the city was $1.
