Hi everybody. I am after advice on the possibility of eaching French in Ecuador? I am travelling there in April with my girlfriend. She is French and I am English and we both want to teach. Any information on French schools would be really appreciated, thanks in advance!

There's a French international school in Quito. They teach entirely in French. It's a proper international school though, so standards are usually pretty high, she would probably need to be a licensed teacher in France to get a job there.

I second #1's response. To teach at one of the international schools will require a teaching degree and certification and at least a couple years experience, plus, in general, a two-year commitment at the start of the school year.

If you are both thinking of simply picking up the odd teaching job at a language school, it's definitely possible, but be aware you will not be working full time nor making very much money. You will be paid by the hour only when you have students.

Okay thanks! Both comments are very helpful. We're moving to the loja area as I have a friend sorting an english teaching job for me there. Hopefully he can help with the french too!

Teaching English in Loja, that job wouldn't be with Canadian House would it? If so, do your homework and make sure you know exactly what you are getting into first.
