We are going to the Galapagos next May and wanted to do some diving. We have been told by our tour company that diving off the tour boats is no longer possible due to National Park rules.

Has anyone done any shore diving in the Galapagos? If so, which island did you use as base? Which company did you use and were you happy with their service? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I didn't do any shore diving but there are dive shops in Puerto Ayora. I dove with Sub Aqua and Scuba Iguana. The latter was by far the better. Don't miss diving Gordon Rocks. It's a great dive. Have fun. Mike

you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows

Definitely possible to dive. Basically, only certain diving subcontractors have been granted permission to conduct dives, but this requires them to take you from your tour boat to the dive site. Thus, you don´t dive from your boat. Apparently this has to be arranged about 3 days prior to when you leave for your tour.

We will be doing a week trip on a Catamaran starting this friday. If we wanted to dive (we are considering this) we need to let our agent know in advance so that they can arrange for the dive company to pick us up at specific sites on our trip. The locations may vary from boat to boat but it is still possible. For our trip there are 3 sites that we can dive from (and according to my Fiance who did dive trips 4 years ago here), pretty cool. Hope this helps.
