I'll be in Ecuador during Holy Week and Easter. Can anyone recommend a place to experience the most interesting celebrations?

It all depends on what you are looking for. I was in Ecuador for Semana Santa in 2011 and they had great festivities in Tena. It started a few days before Easter and the entire town shut down for a children's parade. The actual Semana Santa festivities were more traditional, but even as an outsider, the town was very inviting and inclusive. I only saw excerpts of the Quito celebration on TV, but the church paraded through Quito, with thousands of people joining in. I imagine the celebration was also amazing to see, but probably less personal than being in a small town.

I know this is not a ton of information, but I hope it is useful to you!

There certainly are some celebrations in the old city of Quito. Travel can be tough to other locations as many Quito-ites get out of the city.

I will also be in Ecuador for semana santa. After doing the Galapagos I will end off in Quito on Apr 12. I will have a week or so during semana santa, but I am trying to catch some trips out of Quito, possibly to Mindo, Banos, or elsewhere, before I fly out. I was planning on flying out Easter Monday (haven't booked yet) but not sure with all the festivities going on, how that may affect my travel plans. Ex) buses being full. I've experienced semana santa in Latin America before and have an idea of what it could entail in Ecuador, but have not tried sightseeing and touring during. I'd appreciate any advice.
