Hi. I'm in the beginning stages of deciding where to go next year in Ecuador and am trying to decide between two jungle lodges, the Sani Lodge near Coca or the much more remote Kapawi Lodge near the border of Peru. Has anyone stayed in either? I know both are owned or will soon be owned by the indigenous people in the area, which is what attracted me to both of these lodges in the first place.

Thanks for any inside info that can be offered!

I've been to Sani, had a great visit and would visit again. I believe that Kapawi is more expensive than Sani but offers more cultural interaction with the indigenous community than Sani does. If you are looking for a nature trip Sani is the answer. If you want more of look at the Amazon indigenous culture and can afford it, Kapawi may be better.

I´ve also been to Sani but wasn't that impressed by the nature we saw. I've been spoiled by several trips to more remote areas of jungle in Peru. The guides at Sani were great, the community-owned nature of the lodge is somethng they are rightly proud of and the location is beautiful.

Check on the camping option if that appeals. They were rebuilding the showers when we were there and we had no access to showers or toilets at the campsite.
