Hi, We've roamed around a bit everywhere else but have now set our sites on Quito in mid January. We have a 1 year old and a 4 year old. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated: kid friendly places to stay, safety info, experiences, etc. Thanks!

Not sure about places to stay as we stayed with family when we had a four year old with us but there are plenty of things to do with children of that age. however with a one year old it's a bit different I suppose although I have seen a few tourists with small children and they seem to be having a good time. The Carolina Park has lots of entertaining things for children on Sundays a and there is a big amusement park at the base of the Teleferico with rides etc. There is also the Vivarium where you can actually handle a safe snake and look at various things which have been rescued in the wild and being looked after for rehabilitation. the Guayllabamba Zoo (about 45 minutes from Quito) is also a great place for children and on the road into Guayllabamba there is a great icecream shop Heladeria Rosalia Suarez (they started out in Ibarra and also have a shop in the Avendia Shyris in Quito).
