Hi there fellow travelers,
I would like to take the train to the Nariz del Diablo and I would like to visit Quevedo
and surroundings as well, the problem is that I don"t have enough time to do both.

What do you suggest? Which one is more worthy to visit?
Thanks in advance for your information.

Both are interesting but given a choice I would take the Train. The choice is between interesting and spectacular with the train being the spectacular, both are unique but for me the train is much more memorable.

I can't say anything about Quevedo, but the train is a joke. It's really touristic. The people sit on the roof and throw candy to Ecuadorian children who are trying to catch it by running after the train. I felt really uncomfortable seeing that. The sights are great, but you don't need to take a train to have those sights.

Gotta admit Though there are some stunning views (actually I find the views between Riobamba and Alausi better than down the actual noze) I think the Nariz del Diable is only worth doing if you happen to be in Riobamba when it's running (it's only once a week) but don't go out of your way to do it. Oh and last time I was there (in may) they weren't letting people on the roof anymore - after the decapitation of a couple Japanese tourists apparantly. Not sure if this is still the case.

It is still the case that you cannot ride on the roof of the train. Also be aware that many people arrive in Riobamba the day before they want to ride the train and the tickets have been sold out. Since the train is for most the main reason for visiting Riobamba, this is very disappointing!

I want to make you aware that going into Quevedo will also put you at some real risk as this city sadly has turned out to be one of the most dangerous in the country. Unless you book a T agency able to pick you up at the buses terminal etc. please dont go and if you do, keep your eyes wide open.

sad to say it but better to avoid you any issues that could be worst. however Ecuador has lot sof places to visit and enjoy just llok into your Lonely planet book and me you decision!

if you come to the jungle give me a buzz!
