We are considering stopping at the Saquisili market but based on our itinerary Thursday isn't the best time to be in that region. I was wondering what people thought of the Monday Ambato Market or the Tuesday Latacunga Markets? Saquisili isn't out of the question, so am I being foolish to pass up on what is supposed to be an amazing market? We aren't looking for any specific items just big fans of markets and hoping for an interesting cultural experience.
Thanks

i loved the market at saquisili and recommend it if you can get there. why is thurs a bad day to be in the region? forget the monday ambato market. it's all fruit and not terribly interesting--at least i didn't think so. just left there today. latacunga is nice, and i saw the market on non-market days and enjoyed it. i would think the tues market would be worthwhile. really, though, if you can get to saquisili, that's my best recommendation

Ambato market was interesting for perhaps 15 minutes, but not worth fussing over, and Ambato itself is not the most attractive or compelling town from a traveler perspective (ie I wouldn't go there just for the market). I'd do the other one you mentioned.

I loved the Saquisili market and eating at a local restuarant after it. I especially enjoyed the early morning animal market which was rather fascinating as watching locals bargaining fopr various animals and then watching them load them onto their trucks etc was quite amusing but the techniques used were very interesting. If you can rearrange your itinerary to fit the the Thursday market in it will be well worth it in my opinion.
