Another question....

My boyfriend and I are alone the last bit of our trip and he flies out on a 9:00 p.m. flight and I leave the next morning. Is it safe to stay overnight in the airport? Or should I stay in a hotel and catch a cab? If so, does anyone have the name of a safe hotel close to the airport??

Which airport? Quito, Guayaquil, Baltra?

Quito airport is really, really small and I doubt you can spend the night there.

I would suggest staying in a hotel in La Mariscal and taking a taxi to the airport in the morning. There are lots of decent and safe hotels/hostals from $8-$15 a night and a taxi to the airport is only $5-$6. I speak only basic spanish and felt totally safe staying on my own and taking a taxi to the airport in Quito last year. Follow #4s advice. When you check into the hotel... ask them to arrange the morning taxi. All hotels have a list of cabbies they trust to call.
