I did not go diving, but an acquaintance booked a day tour from San cristobal to kicker rock/Leon dormido with 2 dives. Price was usd 170.

The diving that Galapagos is famous for can only be achieved on a liveaboard, which will take you to the northernmost islands of Wolf and Darwin; this is where you will be surrounded by hammerheads and Galapagos sharks and are most likely to see whale sharks. There are only about 3-4 companies running charters there. This is advanced diving that requires a minimum number of dives (and I would highly recommend Rescue Diver certification) as well as the ability to handle some pretty crazy currents.

Day diving is expensive. I assume you would be visiting the islands already and not just going for a day or two of diving. You don't want to book with just any dive op. Check their affiliation with various certifying agencies and don't rely on logos plastered on their Web site or store window.
