Been traveling throughout Ecuador and loving it so far. My friend is scheduled to fly out of Quito on the day after Christmas(26/12) in the moring so I believe we are stuck in Quito for Christmas. We have been in Quito for the Founding Festival earlier this month and liked the city so it may not be such a bad thing. However, would like to consider other places near Quito for Christmas but fearful that no buses run on Christmas. Any recommendations you have on how to spend Christmas and Christmas Eve in or around Quito would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hey! I´m not sure about the bus situation, but I spent a few days in Mindo, just a couple of hours northwest of Quito, as sort of an escape from the city. It is a very small town, but I don´t think you´d have a problem finding food, accomodation, etc there. If you haven´t been there, its a nice place to check out. They have lots of waterfalls, hiking, etc.
