Hey everyone,

after half a year of travelling I'm in need for some Beach time. Swimming, surfing, relaxing and drinking a beer or two is what I have in mind. I just can not decide where to. Which of the places listed above do you prefer and why? Which beach is the nicest? It should not be overcrowded nor too tranquil either....

Thanks for your Input!

Hola!

I've only personally been to Montanita and as such can only give you an idea of the area. The beach is great, there is good surf and it's very affordable. It has lots of places to stay and eat that are all right next to the beach. That being said it's a huge party town with loud music blaring almost every night of the week.

However, if you stay outside of the main party district, there are lots of quieter places farther down the beach. We stayed at one place for almost a week and had a grea time. Right on the beach and less than a 10 minute walk to the main strip. Details at: http://girlgonegallivanting.com/full-moon-partying-in-montanita-ecuador/

Hope this helps!

hi there. i´ve just been to all three places. montanita was my favorite but not a place you go to relax...beautiful beaches and big party scene. second favorite was mompiche. beautiful beaches (if you go, you´ll have to check out the black beach and portete island). it´s mellow but you can always find a place to put back a few beers at night. we stayed at a hostal that just opened called the mudhouse. not ocean-view but a really nice place and they had a clean kitchen for us to cook in that helped out a lot with our budget. canoa had nice beaches, too, but i never really jived with the place. have fun!

Dont go to Montanita if you want to relax, its a party town , lots of hippies, drunks and drugs. smells like sewer.
Monpiche is quiet , more relaxing but no great sun set.and really out of the way

Canoas you best bet. and its close to Bahia de Caraquez which is a beach town peninsula and paradise in a league of its own

I've been to all 3 as well. I didn't like Montanita cause of the party scene, way too loud to sleep (not cause of actual partying, just the blaring music that never stops).

I would say hands down Mompiche, it's just a more intimate little beach town. Canoa is good and was my 2nd favourite coastal location but I thought Mompiche was the best.
