Hi there,

I know Puyo is at the edge of the jungle. I´m planning on doing a bike trip from Banos to Puyo and was wondering whether this would be a malaria area?

I don´t plan on going into the jungle - just looking at the waterfalls, scenery etc and then getting the bus back with the bikes.

Should i take malaria tablets for this?

Thanks for your help

No. Puyo doesn't have much of a mosquito problem because it's still high in elevation. Enjoy the bike ride. It's fun!

I'm not a medical professional, but I certainly wouldn't bother taking the tablets for just a few hours on the edge of the jungle. You could take some insect repellant with you.

I did a trip from Banios to Puyo-the waterfall road, but i also spent 10 days in the jungle near Tena and i didn't take malaria pills. In September there weren't many mosquitoes.
Enjoy your trip!

If you're worried about Malaria, download GoogleEarth, and get the Malaria project attachment (off Google Earth website) It shows all the malaria hotspots around the world. Not 100% obviously, but gives you an idea. I'm not keen on anti-malarials, so try to avoid hotspots.
