Hello all you travelers out there!

I am traveling to Ecuador from 11/22 to 12/9 and am looking to kick it on the beach for about 10 days of that time. Does anyone have any reccommendations for which towns I should look at staying in? I am interested in avoiding the ritzy tourist traps, but want a fun town to hang out in, somewhere that I can learn how to surf, maybe go snorkeling, fishing etc.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Start at Playas de villamil in guayas... mangalr alto and montañita in the sun´s rout.. puerto lopez.. goto playa de los prailes, then keep going up to the three saits Saint Vicente, jacinto and clemente.. pass bahia to Canoa.. world famous.. keep going up and dont miss the turn to go to Mompiche.. Muisne beach is nice but a bit messy in the town..... this should take you a good two weeks to enjoy everything!

We just returned from a week in Canoa. My brother lives there. It is very quiet and I didn't think it was touristy at all. I saw a lot of surfing. There are also great hangouts such as the Coco Loco and the Surf Shack! I would certainly recommend it.

Canoa is nice, as well as Sua and other nearby towns.

The absolute furthest from being a ritzy tourist trap is Ayampe. There's nothing to do there but I loved it! Although I don't know if you can really learn to surf there, you probably already have to know how...can't imagine there are any teachers. But it could be great for 2-3 days just to see the relaxed fishing-village life.

THanks everyone! I am going to look into Canoa. We are doing some volcano climbing as soon as we get to Quito, probably Iliniza Northe and Cotopax, possibly Chimborazo, then take a bus to the coast. Your advice is very helpful! I am looking for quiet hotels on the beach in Montanita. I could spend up to $25 a night, but would prefer to spend less. If you have any advice let me know!
