hi

we are travelling some month now in south america. unfortunatelly our flight back to switzerland is coming closer and closer. we do fligh back for xmas out of quito and as i just saw there is already lots of snow in switzerland now.

so we would like to spend our last weeks (about 3) in the warmth and at the beach. where do we have the better beach options? in north of peru or in ecuador (no budget for the galapagos...)? does anyone now both areas?

we are looking for a nice beach, nice cozy huts not too crowded but not boring...

thanks for all the tipps.

regards

sugarbelinda

One of my favorites in Ecuador is Canoa. Nice and laid back but there are still things to do. If you go stay at Coco Loco hostel, the owners are great and can help arrange anything you want to do. I enjoyed Paragliding, gives a great view of the area at sunset.

Don't miss eating at Cafe Flor, great home cooked fresh food. There are some photos here

Ecuador we have been to Canoa and Puerto Lopez beach towns. Puetro Lopez has a good hike to five beaches, islands with blue foot bobbies and a nice strip of restraunts on the beach with a great Hostal Maxima. The sun bathing beach is in the national park outside of town. Canoa had more or a party scene then Puerto Lopez and better waves. Mancora is in Peru had the most sunshine and surfing with a wild party scene but cost more. I would say just for sun Mancora, however I like the country of Ecuador more. Beth

Zorritos.

It' s a small village south Thumbes (30 min by collectivo), there is a hostel calls "Tres Puntas" (casagrillo@yahoo.es) with ecological huts (the whole hostel is recyclable), there is only 5 huts in total, making the place very quiet, comfortable, restaurant is amazing, no where to go out but the young staff will take you out for a drink, there is as well mud baths not far. $5 to $ 7 per persons, with hammocks everywhere !!!!

From Thumbes (at the market) , take a collectivo to Zorritos, once there, take a mototaxi to tres Puntas (everyone there will know)

they are part of HI

Mancora.

40 kms south Zorritos, Peruvian hot spot, with a lot of different kind of accomodations, night clubs, bars and so....

The climate at this time of year should be equal for the beaches from northern Peru through Ecuador, but the further north you go, the warmer the water. Xmas thru New year will be crowded anywhere you go.

I have been to Puerto Lopez and Crucita (small place) on the Ecuador coast (August) and recently to Mancora and Huanchaco on the northern Peruvian coast. All were nice, but I found the beach in Mancora the best for just sunbathing, swimming, chilling out. There are lots of nice beaches right near Mancora (less than 5k away) that are quieter but still close enough to walk or get a mototaxi to Mancora where there are excellent restaurants. Try www.vivamancora.com -- some nearby beaches include las pocitas and vichayito. Also Los Organos, another town is about 12km away and very chilled.

I did not find things more expensive in Mancora than Ecuador. Things were a bit cheaper in Huanchaco, 8 hours by bus further south and a bigger/nicer town than Mancora. Beach still nice, but I liked Mancora better. I had a room for $8 a night with my own bathroom and view of the sea, and an excellent dinner was about the same $8, but you can also eat for $2 a meal if you want to. Good luck, have fun
