Hi

Thanks for taking the time and energy to answering questions n
or pointing me in the right directions to answer them myself.

I leave Thursday from Chinag Mai Thailand and arrive into Quito, Ecuador

I lived in Ecuador n Peru for 4 years but 10 years ago, so things change.

Suggestions on the cheapest/safest way to get from Airport to the South American Explorers Club?
What is a price to pay, so as not to get ripped off?

Highly suggested back packers or hostiles that are quiet/peaceful, safe and cheap?
I am a light sleeper unfortunately and I love to sleep in and prefer a room to myself.

Where can I find a list of the English Language schools;

Natural Health (Massage, Medicinal Herbalism, Hypnotherapy / NLP...) oriented businesses;

Wilderness Skill Training and Guiding services / programs;

in Banos, Mindo, Ottovallo, Quito,
Cuenca, Riobamba,
Ecuador in general.

I have over 20 years of professional experience in each of these fields
(exception: 5 Years in Teaching English)
and within international locations
including previously in Ecuador n Peru.

Id love to find a great place to work at what I love doing
and with some real, positive and excellent communicative peoples.

I would love to send off my CV, professional eferences, Tefl, etc to them now,
so that when I arrive and contact them they are alreeady familar with me

Do most or all of the English Language schools set teachers up with year contracts or not?

Thanks

Jaan Versch

Unfortunately, as you are clearly not a native English speaker, finding work teaching English will be extremely difficult. The market is flooded with young native speakers from the US or UK willing to work for next to nothing.

Considering you don't speak Spanish, it will be hard finding other work. While it is possible to find guiding work in other countries without speaking the local language, the overwhelming majority of guides here do speak Spanish. This means you'll be competing with them for jobs without this vital qualification. It will be tough to find steady work.

I would imagine after living in Peru and Ecuador for 4 years that the OP does speak some Spanish o i don't know where you got the idea she doesn't. How do you know the OP is not a native English Speaker? She could have been born and raised in an English speaking country. Just because her name isn't a typical English sounding name it doesn't mean she wasn't born in any particular place. Her English writing seems perfectly OK to me.

Yes Vilcabamba and Cuenca do have large expat populations as does Quito and Cotacachi so there are quite a few places to explore the possibilities with regards to setting up a holistic type of practice.

Hmm, the writing clearly shows the OP is clearly a non-native English speaker, at least one with any decent education. Most of my intermediate English students here in Mendoza write much better.

The name seems Dutch. Many people from the Netherlands are English teachers because their grammatical and other English skills are often superior to most native speakers. However, this is clearly not the case for poor Jaan.

Fluffy _bunny n mendocinateacher2 appear to be judgemental people who by their comments show already a minimum ability to comprehend intelligent thoughts (n likely beviors I can imagine, by the comments theyve made here.

Im dutch.
I grew up in the united slaves (intentionally lower case), the UK and in the Neatherlands

Happily an X United slaves citizen of 17 years.
I said , u.s. shove it and leave it...
in reference to its fascist government n those small mindeed arrogent u.s. amercicans who support it, which seems ""not to be a majority""" of the people there nor out here in the world who have happily left it.

The large x pats community world wide seem too to of left cause they are fed up with the u.s. government n alike.
Then again why call yourself an x pat if you were never patriotic to the u.s or any country in the first place.

Its the rare and endangered intelligent life forms left on this planet
who see people as the unique individuals they are
n relate to them such,
not by the country, or religion, or sex or preference or...
that individuals freely (or not) chose to call themselves or relate to.

Also I wrote the original notice when I was tired so hell no Im not going to grammatically try to impress anyone .
The ,message is what matters not the perfection of the grammar etc.
Im happy to correspond with jgcp n any other intelligent persons

I hope her massage and wilderness (and whatever else) skills are better than her communication skills, for the sake of her clients.

I am sorry that I have offended her or any other indigo children for somehow questioning their superior evolutionary process. I will retire to my primordial mud.

Whatever the case, you are not going to be able to make a living teaching English anyway. The schools will only pay you when you have students, and then it may only be $4-5 an hour. If you are a fully certified teacher you could get some better-paying ($20/hour)gigs tutoring young students from the private schools, but that will take some networking.

Getting a real, above-ground job will take quite a bit of pavement-pounding and knocking on doors but it can be done. However, if you are already in the country on a tourist visa having it converted to a work visa might entail some major bureaucratic headaches though it would help if you are sponsored by an employer. The suggestions for finding employment in Cuenca and Vilcabamba were on-target but Quito also has a growing network of practitioners of various disciplines including within established clinics and hospitals.

OK so much for the judgemental other posters who seem to make no allowances for typos etc. but teachers are paid poorly unless you are qualified to teach anything other than english it seems but practicing alternate medicine could be a go in other cities other than the expat cities but like other cities such as Ambato or Ibarra etc where many Ecuadorians might be willing to use your services. It not be easy like it may have all those years ago but maybe you can make you mark if you have the finances to explore all possibilities... and good luck!

Ok so some other but not azbucedora who seems tolerant of anyone. would most of you be concerned and/or welcome and support the poor refugees on Manus island who heartless aussies seem to support their terrible treatment.. OK this rather well spoken dutch person is looking to return to Ecuador/ Peru to live for some time. Now can anyone help or are you all going to bang on about her non-English or origins even though i have seen her posts in English a lot more correctly (minus all typos that everyone makes)than some of those posters from o called english speaking countries... I think not.....

I am sorry, but if people come on asking for advice for finding work as an English teacher who are obviously and clearly not qualified in any way, then fair is fair. This is an open forum, and people should be able to make fair comments in a humorous way. I only came on this silly thread because jgcp unfairly criticised a fair comment of #1, and I was addressing jgcp, not the OP. Obviously the OP does not care. Given the last silly post, obviously jgcp does not care about being fair or logical either, so I will promise not to post on this silly thread again.
