Hi

There are 7 of us backpackers looking to go to the Amazon for 4 days in September. Anyone have some name of reputable and reasonably priced tours and/or lodges? I have heard some good things about Samona.....

THANKS!

There are a bunch of cool places in the jungle, some lodges, some communities, tours, all sorts of stuff.

If you would be interested in a community based project, click here.

For the others, just start by coming to Quito, there are a lot of travel agencies willing to help you out.

Just returned 07/01/2007. We stayed at the Napo Wildlife Center! It was great. You have to fly into Coca from Quito and then take a 4 1/2 hour motorized dug out canoe finished by a regular dug out canoe to final destination. The remote area allowed us to see a lot of wildlife. The accomodations were wonderful as well as the food.

Just did a trip with Samona...they where great, affordable, nice clean lodge, incredible food, very flexible, and most important, had very knowledgable guides.

Samona was wonderful. Definitely the way to go, and EXCELLENT food. Their four-day tour was great. You can book in Quito. They have an office on Amazona and J. Punto street.
