Hi

Does anyone know of accomodation in La Mitad del Mundo?

I´m wanting to go there on a Sunday afternoon as apparently thats the best time for the live music on the outdoor stage, I want to do all the equator attractions as well as visit the Planetarium so was thinking an overnight stay would be best as would have all my luggage with me having just arrived back from the Galapagos.

Many thanks

We stayed in Quito and took the bus--about an hour away.

I agree, staying in Quito is fine. But the bus to Mitad del Mundo is so packed on Sundays and you can be queueing at the terminal for over an hour, so head off in the morning. It costs something ridiculous like 20 cents.
I heard the actual Mitad del Mundo, with the monument, really wasn´t worth it (the monument isn´t even on the equator), so I went to the neighbouring Inti Ñan which is spectacular, with excellent guides and demonstrations.

The French who originally mapped out the place where the equator should be didn't leave any markers for the Ecuadorians so it was a bit of a guess where the actual equator was and the Ecuadorians were out by a few hundred metres. However as the correct location has now been ascertained you can go there (best on a day trip) and enjoy all the area has to offer. I loved the live entertainment but don't forget to go to the best museums listed numerous times on this site.

I agree, it's wasy enough to stay in Quito and take the riduclously cheap local bus out to to the mitad del mundo. I don't recall seeing any accomodation options at the actual mitad del munso, but I wasn't really looking.
