Hi fellow travelers,

I will be in Ecuador at the end of March for 10 days traveling solo. I have done a lot of research but need a little bit of suggestion. This is what I have planned so far.

Day 1 - Quito
Day 2 - Quito
Day 3 - Latacunga
Day 4 - Quilotoa Loop (trekking)
Day 5 - Quilotoa Loop (trekking)
Day 6 - Quilotoa Loop (trekking)
Day 7 - Quilotoa Loop (trekking)
Day 8 - ?
Day 9 - ?
Day 10 - Quito (have to be back in Quito due to an early flight the next day)

I originally planned to go to Cuenca and Vilcabamba but I see that's a long bus ride away from the Central Highland area. I also originally wanted to take the Nariz de Diablo train, but since I found out that passengers can no longer sit on the roof, it kind of lost its appeal for me personally. I would love to visit a less touristy town if that's possible. Is Hacienda San Agustin De Callo something worth visiting? If there is another great train ride that you think I should check out, I would really appreciate that information too.

I want to say a huge thank you in advance.

Have You thought about going to Baños? Its my personal fav place in Ecuador (my fam expats in Salinas). Its The adventure capital And has The famous swing over The end Of the world...And Is The portal to The Amazon...as well as natural hot springs! They Also make delicious special sugar cane taffy there, have an amazing food market, And special nut art. I Just wrote a guide to Baños if You are interested. :)

Yes, Banos is the obvious choice to fill the gap in your itinerary. You'd want at least 2 nights for Banos, so with only 10 days, you'd want to do the Quilotoa Loop in 3 days. Just take a bus for one section there. You'll see the landscape just as well. Don't cut back on your time in Quito, because it's a fantastic city to explore.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I didnt consider Banos because it seems like everyone goes there but after reading your blog, Walkaboot, I am pretty sold. Thanks again, guys!!
