I have about 9 days to get from Cartagena to Bogota (including time I would like to spend in Bogota).
I am having trouble deciding whether to go to Salento, or Villa de Leyva on the way.
Any opinions on which is (a) more interesting/beautiful; or (b) more convenient to get to from Cartagena?
Thanks for your help.

Buenaventura

Heya,

Just wanted to check in about the beaches near Buenaventura -- some folks from cali have recommended this as an option instead of going all the way up to the caribbean coast - which sounds nice!

Curious about ease of accomodation, travel and niceness of the beaches and swimming.

Wouldn.t be going til after easter, so holiday traffic isn.t really an issue.

Cheers,

Mike

ME AMD MY WIFE WHERE ATTACKED AT 4 PM AT GUN POINT YESTERDAY ON THE MAIN BEACH AT CABO DE LA VELA.
WE WHERE ROBBED OF OUR MONEY AND NO BODILY DAMAGE RESULTED IN MY OPINION BECAUSE THE ATTACK WAS
WITNESSED BY A FISHERMAN ON THE BEACH WHOM HELPED ME TO GO BACK AND RECOVER THE EMPTY BAG FROM THE SHRUBS CONTAINING OUR PASSPORTS.
REGARDLESS HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CRIME SITUATION IN COLOMBIA AND WHAT TOURS OPERATORS MAY OR MAY NOT TELL YOU , WE THINK CABO DE LA VELA IS NOT A SAFE PLACE FOR TOURISTS, WE…

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Cali-Buenaventura route lately, if there were any problems. How was Buenaventura, security issues? Anything can help, thanks,

was wondering about stopping here en route to popayan.. has anyone been?

is it a good place for souvenirs, or more of a traditional market - i.e. food and other essentials?

I´d be looking for CHEAP craft items.

Otherwise, any suggestions about a market to hit up would be appreciated. -- kind of irrelevant where they are in the country, seeing as my itinerary keeps changing!

Cheers,

Mike

Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of the old Venezuelan Bolivares from within Colombia?

I'm aware that there is a 6 month deadline in Venezuela to change them into Bolivares Fuertes so I'm keen to get rid of them as soon as possible.

I'm happy to change them into any currency.

Any advice regarding specific banks or money exchange offices would be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking about visiting Colombia and the San Andres Islands in April or May.

What is the best and cheapest way to get to the Islands by flying?

Are they worth going to?

Which islands are best to visit?

Is late April or early May a good time weatherwise to visit?

Hi there,
since 2004 this is my fifths time for several weeks in Colombia.
Even though security has dramatically improved in the last years, I still wonder what the situation is really like if you get off the beaten track.
Unfortunately I met many people, especially in Hostels, who seem to have no idea what they are getting into.
Maybe it is due to the issue, that I do speak spanish, read the newspapers and got lots of explanations from my colombian friends that I have seen and heard of many things…
