Hi, I'm considering visiting Colombia for 2 weeks over New Years but I'm uncertain of what I should expect to do. The Ciudad Perdida hike near Santa Marta is at the top of my list, along with other parks and towns near Santa Marta and Cartagena. That being said, is this something that will easily fill up an entire 2 weeks, or would I possibly have time to visit Medellin/Salento or Bogota as well? Looking for any ideas for this time constraint (I really wish I could go for more than 2 weeks).
Another tourist has fallen for the "Ciudad Perdida" marketing campaign. Whichever ad executive dreamed up that name for this smallish archaeological site was a genius.
Yes after Caragena, Tayrona and the lost city, there would be time for Bogota or Medellin. I'd recommend Medellin in December, because of the famous Christmas lights there.
There is a ton of stuff to do around Santa Marta. Easily 2 weeks or more, so if like minimizing planes, bus or travel time you could just spend your time in the area of the cuidad perdida hike. 5 days on the hike. And then divide the rest of the time between Taganga, Tayrona park, Palomino, Minca. La Guajira is another option not too far, 3 day jeep tour. Or go the other direction and visit Cartagena.
Or you could open up the rest of the country with flights to the big cities. Depends how you like to travel you could totally stay in this area for 2 weeks.
For me, I'm not keen on humidity and heat, so 2 weeks in this area would be hard for me, I max out after a week in the heat. So I would spend time in the cooler mountain cities for that reason, Bogota, etc. But lots of people enjoy the heat and beaches.
