We will be in Cartegena in a few days and wondering if anyone has done the volcano mud baths in totumbo? Volcano?
Was it worth the time and effort to do it and what is the best way to do it?
We looked at a tour online and it was $$120.00 US per person. Far too expensive for us Canadian travelers.
Anyone?

Hm, I've never been but I heard it was not great. In my opinion, there is much more to do on the Caribbean Coast, especially for this price.
Here an article from travelers who did it: https://practicalwanderlust.com/2016/09/mud-baths-in-a-volcano-cartagenas-most-ridiculous-day-trip.html
I did the mud baths at el totumo. they are a bit of a novelty if you ask me but they were kinda cool, just manage your expectations - don't expect them to be super grand or big! It's really a little hillock with a small square mud pool on top that everyone jumps into. If there's a large group, they have a bit of a queue system going to manage numbers. The view around it is quite nice though.

Every extra thing you do you pay for (extra 4,000 COP per thing), like getting a massage or getting washed down after, so if you don't want to pay these extra things, just tell the people no before they get started because if you tell them after, you'll have to pay them. You can just jump into the river and wash yourself off for free honestly, and the massage is also a bit of a novelty so if you're trying to save, just say no :)
And that tour is way too expensive - go look around when you are in Cartagena itself. My tour cost me 45,000 COP which is about S$27 (think SGD is about equivalent to CAD) so for that price, not too bad. I booked my tour at the tour desk at Mamallena hostel and they have lunch near a beach on the way back.
Here's a very brief overview of my trip in Colombia if that helps :) https://theoccasionaltraveller.com/singaporean-in-colombia/
We enjoyed the novelty of it. Here's our blog with brief overview - http://2britsabroad.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/photo-friday-mud-volcano.html
I cant remember how much we paid but we were on a 7 month trip and on a budget so there's no way we'd have paid 120US$
Worth remembering the tips for the locals who offer their various services as outlined above
