Hi,

has anyone been in Tumaco? Search did't yield results. I'm curios if the port and its beaches are worth a detour from Ipiales. I looks there were nice pacific beaches and the bus ride seems to be quite impressing too. Guess I won't be supposed to meet many fellow travelers there... Cheers! Z.

Hi,

What you say it's true. My family is from Ipiales and they used to go there for a holiday. The population is mainly black, tracing back to slavery. That shows visitors haven't been there for a long time, I mean colonos. It's not a common destination for foreigners or even Colombians apart from those around the area. But it's nice enough area and a bus ride in Colombia is always going to be spectacular, landscapes and villages are unspoiled.

In general the Pacific coast is like that.

Hi Parafernalia,

thanks for your reply. Tumaco is getting more an more interesting for me now. What about safety for a solo traveller there? It's not my first time in south america and I speak spanish but Tumaco seems to be really off the beaten track. And by the way: any recommendation would be appreciated.

You can send me a pm in spanish as well.

Thanks again, Z.

Hi there, I cannot give you a great deal of info...but I was in Tumaco a few years ago and found it to be a very interesting and friendly place. Yes, I did stand out being the only foreigner in town, and at times I felt I needed to be careful, but in truth my memories are all good. Great food and good company.
