We are flying from Medellin to Nuqui on Saturday October 22 and must then get to El Valle so we can catch another flight in Bahia Solano on Sunday the 23rd.

Can anyone suggest a way? There are boats from Nuqui to El Valle on Monday and Friday, but that doesn't help us. We must travel on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

It seems we need to hire a private boat and captain. Can anyone suggest one that will work with our schedule?
Thanks!

That's a tough one. However there are a lot of launch owners in El Valle who take tourists whale watching. As the migration is over they should be available. You might try calling Posada Touristico El Valle and asking the owner Janeth if she can give you the numbers of any boat owners. She's been there a long time and knows them all. 034 682 7907.

Thanks for the response!

  1. Don't we need to contact boat owners in Nuqui? We fly to Nuqui and need to move from Nuqui to El Valle on Saturday the 22nd. Would Janeth have knowledge of boat owners in Nuqui? Or are you suggesting we will have better luck hiring a boat to come down to Nuqui to pick us up and take us back to El Valle?

  2. Also, you say the Whale watching season is over? I thought it is near the end but there are still Whales to see. We are coming to Nuqui specifically to see Whales!

Thanks again for any help.

No not really over but the end of the season as I understand it. Yes there must be boat owners in Nuquí as well but I don't have any information on how to reach them. You might need a boat to come from El Valle.

You can see whales in October. I went to Ladrilleros/Juanchaco a few years ago in October, and we had no problem finding whales. Yes, it's towards the end of the season, but it isn't over yet. However, from what the guide told us, the male whales that breach the water are long gone. You have to arrive earlier in the season to see them. Whales or no Whales, that part of the Pacific coast is pretty awesome.

Fair enough. We will call Janeth as you suggest and see what we can work out.
FYI, I have found one captain in Nuqui so far who has quoted us 400,000 COP for transport for 2 people from Nuqui to El Valle with Whale watching included. We'll keep trying. Thanks!

Still seeking information! Contact information for boat owners/captains in Nuqui who can take us to El Valle or boat owners/captains in El Valle that will come pick us up in Nuqui and take us back on Saturday October 22.

Yes, we have one quote so far. 400,000 COP seems high. Hoping to get others for comparison for transport and Whale watching for 2 people from Nuqui to El Valle.

One more question: How long does it take by boat from Nuqui to El Valle?

Thanks.

Have you tried contacting your hotel? They most likely know many of the lancha captains in the area, and there's a good chance that they might be able to point you in the right direction. Also, you probably aren't going to find a rate much lower than 400,000 COP for round trip service. Considering the trip takes about 2hrs one way and that the price of gas in that part of Colombia ain't cheap, 400,000 COP seems like a pretty reasonable rate.
