I have had varied experiences teaching English in Bogota and I thought I would share my information with others who are thinking of doing the same. You should be very careful about working for a small and/or new school, as they may not pay for the work you do. I will not post the name of the school that did not pay me to avoid trouble. But one school I had a good experience with was Workshop Institute, it is a multinational company that provided training and always paid promptly at the beginning of every month. Their number is 217-0371.

These people are the fullanguage people again. I think they are definately multinational as they really know how to spell!! I would always look at an institute that knows how to spell their name in english correctly!!
Wouldn´t have much confidence in them remember to get your return ticket paid which legally they must do!!

Bottom line no visa no protection, if you want to work in a sweatshop go for it but don´t come crying to us when everything goes to sh%t!!!!
Good luck

rhythmbug- Workshop does not have a branch in Medellin, there does not seem to be much crossover between these cities.
hydro- I was just trying to give a tip for an institute that will actually pay you. You seem really upset by the spelling of their domain name, I do not know what to say, maybe fulllanguage.com was not available, maybe they thought only 2 ls looks better or is easier to type. In any event, it is a pretty small thing to get so worked up about, they operate well and they pay you on time.
As for getting a visa and a return ticket from an institute in Bogota, you are dreaming. It will never happen. But, if you know an institute that will give you a visa and a return ticket in Bogota, please let me know, I will send them my CV.

and any LEGAL institute if they dont they will be closed down sooner or later. There are big pressures to approve the TLC (bilateral trade agreement between US and colombia at the moment) and exploitation of workers is in the crosshairs (which illegal hiring is). Again I want to stress that institutions are strong in Colombia and the presidents cousin just got arrested so that should prove something!!
But go for it, one thing I would say to them though is "pay me at the end of each week" don´t accept that they pay you five/ten days after the end of the month when you hand your timesheet in-why should you do anyone a favour who is exploiting you??!!!! If they tell you to get lost what do you do? I dont know at this moment but I am going to find out- I am sure the law protects us rather than them even when we work illegally. Ill get back to you on that one.
good luck y'all!!

I guess we will just have to disagree. The BC is pretty much only for English people, which I am not, and it is even difficult for them to get a job there. Anyway, I forgot to include the email in the first post, it is: workshopinstitute@fullanguage.com.

you are disagreeing about what exactly?!!
I`m still not buying that they multinational company a multinational company can spell!
Maybe you can give us a link to their Parent company`s webpage?

You can clearly see on the website you refered to that they have an institute in more than one country, that makes them multinational in my book. What do you mean they can't spell? Are you still talking about the domain name? Several companies drop letters from their domain names, especially consecutive letters, how long have you been using the internet? I disagree your statement that you should walk away from a job unless they buy you a plane ticket and pay you American wages, that is not going to happen here and you are misleading people by saying otherwise. On another post, you said you made 10.000 pesos per hour, that is very low. All I can say is I make 5 times the average monthly salary here and I don't work full-time. I don't feel exploited. Does my boss make more than me? Of course, that is how capitalism works. I guess I don't understand why you keep posting here when you have nothing informative or constructive to say.
