Folks,
Just trying to get travel insurance for my trip. I'm planning on a few hikes... Nothing crazy but around Salento/Cócora NP, possibly Laguna Verde... Basically not serious stuff but day hikes.
What's the average altitude of these kind of day hikes? This has a bearing on the insurance I'll buy as they all have limits. The one I was looking at was limited to 2500m with an option to extend to 4500m...
Could explain "average altitude"?
Is this the mean of all of the altitudes during a hike, or is it the mathematical average of the starting altitude and highest altitude (or something else)?
The summit of Nevados del Ruiz is at 5821m, the Valle de Cocora runs from 1800-2400m. If the difference in insurance is small then I would go for the 4500m extension (or perhaps look for a policy which allows you go higher than that).
Valle de Cocora is an excellent choice for a nice long day hike. Friends and I did a fifteen kilometer loop starting and ending at the parking area. We never exceeded 2400m.
Thanks, I'll do a bit more research. I need to check the limits on the policies. It's harder because I am away from home so it costs much more for less cover! :(
