Hi,

has anybody recently done a sailing trip from Cartagena to San Blas and can
recommend a specific boat or can give some advice?

I want to do the trip around 28th of May '08. The only source of info I have so far
is Casa Viena. Are there any other posibilities beside Casa Viena to organize
that tour?

Thanks for infos.

Rafael

Hey,

Do a search on this site for sailing to Cartegena and you should find quite a bit of info. There is the good and the bad for sure.
Several people have let others know about bad captains, boats and experiences. And also there are recommendations.
Casa Vienna has info but they are not responsible for what happens just a place to advertise and suggestions so I think this
site is good for etc research but definitely start from Casa Vienna. Also, there is a hostel in Panama that does the same I forgot
their name but just do the same search under Panama. Good luck.

Zuly's sets up trips on the Panama side. If you do a search for hostel websites for Panama and Cartagena, you should be able to find more.

Hotel Holiday in Cartagena also has a lot of information.
If you kind of have a date set in your mind, you will have to take anithing that comes or goes around that time.

We had some difficulty getting off the San Blas to Panam City.
We were dropped on El Porvenir.
The locals have to find the time in their "busy schedule" to take you to the city.
It is 1 hr by boat to the mainland then 4 to 5 hours by 4x4 to Panama City.
They were charging 5 USD per person for the boat and 25 USD for the jeep.
We got the ride for 20 each, but then the driver dropped us in the city, not at a guesthouse.

In Panama City, Lunas Castle in Casco Viego has good info on boats.
Get some cash USD in Cartagena before leaving, as the first ATM is in Panama City.
You'll probebly have to spend some time in San Blas before you can can go to Panama City.

in cartagena go to the harbor with sailing boats (taxi, but you can easuily walk, it isnot very far), drink a beer talk to the people, that way you can skip the casa viena and talk directly to some captains, go the very first day of your stay in cartagena as you could be waiting some time before leaving (we have been waiting 10 days ...)
