Hi guys,
i wonder if you can help. I have 7 weeks holiday and I was thinking of going to Colombia from the 1st November. I have checked a couple of guides and they all say that November is really wet. My question is - does it rain most of day or is it just an hour/couple of hours? It is sunny during that period or just cloudy the whole day? I ask this question because I spent some time in Mexico (Yucatan) during the rainy season last year and it was just a couple of hours, afterwards was again sunny. Many thanks for your help

It never rains constantly: most places it's fine in the morning then builds to a heavy afternoon rainstorm which doesn't last long. In the sierras you will often find "llovisna" which is fine drizzle, and last longer, however doesn't have much impact on daily activities.
Note that the weather is not uniform across the country: when it's wet in the sierras it may be dry in the Lllanos, etc., etc.
Like #1 said, it generally only rains during certain times of the day and those times are rather consistent. However, Colombia is comprised of many different climates and micro climates. The weather in Bogota may be cold and rainy, but only a few hours away, the weather could be hot and dry. Here in Colombia, weather systems can drastically change over the course of a short bus trip. Often, you'll go from hot to cold and then from hot to cold to hot again. I've been to the Choco , where it rains for days at a time, and I've lived in Medellin, where you know almost exactly when the afternoon rains will come.
All that being said, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Colombia is a great place to visit no matter the time of year. Visiting in the rainy season isn't going to limit what you can do, and it won't put a damper on your activities. Just find out what them weather situation is and plan accordingly.

The closer to the Andes the more clouds and constant rain you get. The Caribbean coast gets the odd, short and strong shower but the humidity is more of a problem. Cities like Medellín or Bogotá can have more permanent clouds, maybe some drizzle but also strong afternoon showers which tend to be a little bit longer. Cities on valleys can also get some rain but definitely more sun during the rest of the day. I would not worry as said before weather should not be a problem, just pack ready for some rain.

Sorry for the late reply, I was spending some time visiting my family and friends!
I am definitely going to Colombia - I have already bought my flight ticket - I will be there in a few days and stay until Xmas.
First of all I will spend a couple of days in Bogota discovering the food and the party and then I will go to Leticia and spend some time through the Amazon River - I have read that the river water levels are very low now and therefore it is a very good period of time. Afterwards, probably Cartagena and the Caribbean Sea. I will see, as you all said, I will check what the weather is like and I will decide then.
Muchas gracias chicos por toda la información!!! Un saludo
