Hi, thank you for the information everyone.
I am planning to hike the trail from around the 20th to 26th of May. Please email me if you are interested in joining. I am 25 y/o male from New Zealand. Interested in getting a guide but flexible on this.

Hey! So it seems as if everybody is just doing the circuit without a permit? Would we get a permit with a guide? We are two friends from Germany, 28 years old. We both have hiking experience from the alpes, Nepal and Patagonia, but never hiked that long on this altitude only with tents. So we are a little insecure about hiking by ourselves, although we would prefer not to take a guide. We are planning on going some time in the middle of may. Is anybody interested in joining us? Would be good to find some nice company! e-mail us on maren.nutzhorn@t-online.de

Hello!
We would like to hike in the park but we don't have camping gear or good tracking gear with us at the moment!
Is it possible to do a day hike and stay somewhere near the park entrance? Is this worth it or do you not see much if you just hike for one day? How much is it to entr the park and to get there?
Thank you

Hi all,
Reach out to a guy called Secundino. We did the trek with him in August 2012 and he might be able to guide you anyway. This is a very detailed blog on how to do the trek that really should answer all questions. And we also list phone numbers and email address of Secundino there:

Absolutely gutted to hear about this! This was to be the first hike of our trip throughout South America.
For all those that have done this circuit after the closure, please let me know. Also, if anyone knows of the portion of this circuit that is in fact closed off, that's would be great. Still hoping we could somehow do this circuit! Thanks in advance! mcosornio (at) gmail (dot) com.

Hey, I think LONELYPLANET FORUM should close this post or change at least the name. Guys, PNN El cocuy is not close (since I was there a month and coins ago), only the 6 days trail is closed. You still can go and get an amazing experience due the three day hikings and the other places to visit that depends on the way of doing it is one or two days short hikes. In general less that 5 days is not possible in my point of view in Cocuy and every moment you will enjoy it.
Any help I can give you please do not hesitate in contact me (I am Colombian but not guide!!! I am an adventurer as you, and I strongly recommend go for it!!! Cocuy is amazing, and if was amazing with the short trips I do not imagine what can be the 6 days trip! ) The only advice, please please, take your garbage with you (that is one of the reasons why they are protecting the area, apart of so many, more difficult to explain, others)

Hi,
I am planning 6 day trek from mid july. I am 32 year old male, have hiked Himalayas in Pakistan, and Inca trail in Peru, reasonably fit. I am looking for more mates. I will fly to Bogotta, stay a few days, watch world cup final and then straight to the park. Shoot me an email if any one wants to join in. I would need a guide but am cool with a group without guide.

Hey! Thanks to everyone for keeping updating this thread! Me an my boyfriend are planning on heading to the park next weekend and we were actually not sure which route to do while we are there. As the 6 day trekk seems to be closed, we were thinking of just spending three days walking and sleeping in the cabanas as we will not have our camping gear with us. Could anyone give us any recommendations on which part of the trail we should do and where to stay?
I know its really short notice, so I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks :))

i came into this thread because i've read about the park and the walks that can be done in it, and wanted some reali time info. and i'm all for evaluating rules (and the likelihood of getting caught) before i follow them, but there are quite a few comments in here which bother me.
the trail in question runs through land which is inhabited by a particular group. it is not public property. this group has said they are not happy to have strangers traipsing across their front yard, so to speak. and yet many people seem to think it's perfectly ok to ignore that and do the hike anyway.
am i missing something?
